Goth Girl
In the mall
You take their stares
With happy defiance
“No Honey, she’s not a witch,” one lady says
As her daughter admires your black lips
“It’s like ‘pretend’.”

Goth Girl
You don’t see me
Sitting drinking my coffee
Thinking a hundred
More dangerous thoughts
Than you

If only they knew
As I straighten
My tie
And go back to work.
